Mr Jeffrey Mushens has been elected as the new Chair of the Chelmsford Diocesan Board of Finance (CDBF). The announcement of Jeffrey’s election was made at today’s meeting of the Diocesan Synod at Chelmsford Cathedral.

Jeffrey worships at Church of Our Saviour, East Springfield, where he is Treasurer and a Trustee. He is a qualified chartered accountant, has been a Chief Accountant of two investment banks, a main Board Director of M&G, and a director of various regulated financial services businesses. He is Technical Policy Director of TISA, an industry body, and a director of TURN, a European regulatory Blockchain.

The Chair of the Diocesan Board of Finance plays a key role in the life of the Diocese. A voluntary, non-executive post, the Chair’s purpose is to provide overall leadership and guidance to the Trustees and Members of the Board of Finance and to ensure that diocesan mission and strategy is supported by effective financial strategy, planning and management.

Jeffrey succeeds Percy Lomax as Chair of the CDBF. Percy retired from the role last year after serving the diocese for many years.

Jeffrey will work closely with the Bishop of Chelmsford, the Rt Revd Dr Guli Francis-Dehqani and the Diocesan Secretary and Chief Executive, Mrs Michaela Southworth.

Commenting on Jeffrey’s election, Bishop Guli said:

“I am delighted that Jeffrey has been elected to this role. His experience in finance coupled with his knowledge and experience of the Church at parish level, most recently as a PCC Treasurer, will be hugely valuable. I look forward to working with him as we seek to resource and support parish ministry across our diocese. I also want to thank Jeffrey’s predecessor Percy Lomax for his outstanding service to the diocese ”

Diocesan Secretary and Chief Executive, Michaela Southworth also welcomed Jeffrey’s election:

“This is good news for our diocese as we continue the work to support mission and ministry in our parishes. Jeffrey will bring a wealth of experience and a passion for serving our church family which he has demonstrated in his own parish. I am very much looking forward to working alongside him. I want to take this opportunity to thank Percy Lomax for his contribution during his many years as our Chair.”

Responding to the news of his election, Jeffrey Mushens said:

“I’m honoured to have been nominated and elected to serve as the new Chair of the Chelmsford Diocesan Board of Finance. I’m very much looking forward to working alongside an outstanding team of clergy and lay people in our parishes as we serve God and the local communities of Essex and East London. I am also looking forward to getting to know those who serve on the Diocesan Board of Finance and its subcommittees as we face the challenges ahead”
